bug fixing

Taking on fixes

I fix broken backends. Not greenfield builds, not redesigns — you have a Node.js or TypeScript service throwing 500s, leaking memory, dropping WebSocket connections, or falling over under load, and you need someone to find out why and make it stop. I work in Express, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Next.js, and I'm comfortable in a codebase I didn't write.

Taking on two or three fixes a week · I reply to bug reports within one working day

Diagnosis Only

from $30 · 1–2 days

You know something is wrong but not where. I find the root cause and write it up. You decide who fixes it.

  • The bug reproduced in a local or staging environment
  • Root cause traced to the specific file, query, or config line
  • A written explanation of why it happens, not just where
  • A recommended fix, sized so you can decide whether to do it in-house
  • No code changes, so no write access to your repository needed

Single Bug Fix

from $50 · 2–4 days

One reproducible bug, diagnosed and fixed, delivered as a pull request you review before anything merges.

  • Root cause analysis before a single line changes
  • Fix delivered on a branch as a pull request, never pushed straight to main
  • A test that fails before the fix and passes after, so the bug can't return quietly
  • A written summary of what broke and why
  • 30-day guarantee: if the same bug resurfaces, I fix it again at no charge

Production Firefight

from $200 · Starts within 24 hours

Something is down or degraded right now and it is costing you money. I put other work aside and start immediately.

  • Work begins within 24 hours of you confirming
  • Live triage across logs, traces, metrics, and database state
  • A safe short-term mitigation first, the proper fix second
  • Reachable over call or chat for as long as the incident is active
  • A written post-mortem covering the cause and how to stop it recurring

Bug Backlog Clearance

from $400 · 1–2 weeks

The pile of small issues nobody has had time for, cleared in one engagement.

  • Up to ten reproducible bugs, triaged with you and ordered by impact
  • Each fix as its own reviewable pull request
  • Regression tests on the fixes that warrant them
  • An honest note on any bug that turns out to be a design problem rather than a bug
  • 30-day guarantee on everything fixed

These are introductory rates. I'm trading price for public reviews while I build up a track record of client work, so you get the same fix cheaper than it'll cost in six months. First five clients only.

How it works

  1. Send me the bug

Reproduction steps, the error or stack trace, and what you expected instead. Read-only repository access helps. I'll sign an NDA if you need one.

  2. I reproduce it before quoting

If I can't reproduce it, I'll tell you rather than bill you to guess. Once I can, you get a fixed price and a turnaround time in writing.

  3. The fix arrives as a pull request

On a branch, with a test proving the bug is gone and a note on what caused it. Nothing reaches your main branch without your review.

  4. 30-day guarantee

If a bug I fixed comes back within 30 days, I fix it again free. That's a warranty on my work, not something you pay for twice.

Send me the bug

Reproduction steps, the error or stack trace, and what you expected to happen instead. I'll come back with a fixed price and a turnaround time, or an honest no if it's outside what I can fix.
